Anteaters for Recycling and ConservationThis student group promotes the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and re-use. Arroyo Vista Sustainability Theme HouseThe Sustainability House provides a space for continuing students interested in social justice, sustainability, and conscious, collaborative living. Residents will have many opportunities to learn about (1) the global environmental and social crises, and (2) what they as students can do individually – and collectively – to address those crises. Activities such as town halls, politician roundtables, professor & student debates, panels, speakers, and facilitation workshops may facilitate public speaking skills and leadership development. The House holds weekly meetings for students to communicate effectively and create House programs jointly. Cooperative living and sharing of resources is encouraged. Preference will be given to students who are passionate about sustainability and social justice. |

EWB is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in emerging countries world wide. As a collaborative of engineers, researchers, students, and professionals from every walk of life, EWB works hand-in-hand with developing communities to implement sustainable engineering projects. Formed in Spring 2008, the new EWB at UCI is building its network and currently partnering with the Orange County professionals chapter to work on developing international projects. Also, EWB at UCI is looking to begin research projects to design economical and sustainable solutions for issues that affect underprivileged communities around the world. The purpose of this club is to expose students to numerous issues regarding the environment and the law. Student learn how the law can be used to take on environmental issues such has global warming. UC Irvine joined a state-wide student organization called Green Campus in the 2004-05 academic year. These UC Irvine undergraduate students find creative ways to promote eco-friendly practices, especially in the area of energy conservation.
These students raise awareness of the connection between cruelty to animals, human health, and the environment; foster a sense of social responsibility in daily living; and empower students through campaigning volunteer work, and social activities. Students for Sustainability is the UC Irvine chapter of the California Student Sustainability Coalition (CSSC). S4S works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to plan sustainability events, advance sustainability initiatives, and promote collaboration, education and engagement of our community.
The Sustainable Energy Technology Club is a student organization that promotes the inspiration, education, and application of sustainable ideas to students, particularly in science and engineering related fields. With the common theme of energy, club members will explore how science and technology can be used as a driving factor behind making changes in society with respect to a cleaner environment and less wasteful lifestyles. SETC will accomplish its goals by means of SETC's Energy Sustainability Seminar Series, monthly field trips or activities, and through the support of engineering student senior design projects where students are able to come up with their own solutions and to physically build or model them.
The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is a grant-making fund for sustainability projects on UC Irvine's campus. TGIF is funded by a $3.50 per quarter student fee beginning in Fall 2009. The fee referendum was approved by the student body during the April 2009 ASUCI elections.
