Student Involvement

The creative, dedicated, and motivated students at UC Irvine are the driving force behind campus sustainability efforts. Without their interest and support, we would not be successful in achieving our sustainability goals.

Green Campus

UC Irvine joined a state-wide student organization called Green Campus in the 2004-05 academic year. These UC Irvine undergraduate students find creative ways to promote echo-friendly practices, especially in the area of energy conservation. Students for Sustainability (S4S)

Students for Sustainability is the UC Irvine chapter of the California Student Sustainability Coalition (CSSC). S4S works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to plan sustainability events, advance sustainability initiatives, and promote collaboration, education and engagement of our community. The S4S website at http://clubs.uci.edu/s4s/ provides information about campaigns and links to resources (including a student's assessment of sustainability at UCI).

Anteaters for Recycling and Conservation

This student group promotes the importance of recycling, waste reduction, and re-use. For more information about their efforts to educate the campus community visit http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/recycle.

CalPIRG

This student run environmental organization provides students with the opportunity to work on and create campaigns concerning public interests and environmental issues, such as hunger and homelessness, water watch, youth vote, and much more. Environmental Law Society at UC Irvine

The purpose of this club is to expose students to numerous issues regarding the environment and the law. Student learn how the law can be used to take on environmental issues such has global warming. Professionals from the fields of law, politics, and the environment will discuss policy and law and how the two relate. For more information you can email elsuci@gmail.com.

Irvine Students Against Animal Cruelty

These students raise awareness of the connection between cruelty to animals, human health, and the environment; foster a sense of social responsibility in daily living; and empower students through campaigning volunteer work, and social activities. Orange County Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology

This student group takes an interdisciplinary approach in relating the biological and research components of environmental conservation to actively promote global sustainability through educational outreach and volunteer programs. Visit their website at http://spirit.dos.uci.edu/scbiology.

Sustainable Energy Technology Club (SETC)

The Sustainable Energy Technology Club is a student organization that promotes the inspiration, education, and application of sustainable ideas to students, particularly in science and engineering related fields. With the common theme of energy, club members will explore how science and technology can be used as a driving factor behind making changes in society with respect to a cleaner environment and less wasteful lifestyles. SETC will accomplish its goals by means of SETC's Energy Sustainability Seminar Series, monthly field trips or activities, and through the support of engineering student senior design projects where students are able to come up with their own solutions and to physically build or model them. >>More

UCI students passed legislation to pay a quarterly ASUCI shuttle service fee, making the B-100 shuttle retrofit project possible.
